HISTORY

Static Moves was born when MARIAMA met KATE at CIRCUS SPACE in 2003. Both had the energy, showmanship and love of performing to want to develop trapeze acts and showcase them in various diverse settings. As a professional actress Kate brought stagecraft, knowledge of the business and theatricality whilst Mariama with a dance background had the choreography and movement skills to stun audiences. In 2004 SARA entered the scene –not only a seasoned and skillful circus artist who combines artistic expression and originality brilliantly, but a fully qualified primary school teacher.

Three very different women who have been steadily building their portfolios of work as individuals and as the trio that is STATIC MOVES

KATHERINE

Katherine’s work as an actress has taken her to theatres, schools and businesses all over the UK and Europe. Whether it be in rep at Ipswich, community theatre in Coventry and Birmingham or touring -–a fair few miles have been covered. Favourite roles include; Rita in Educating Rita ( Stockholm), Gail in Teechers ( Ipswich), Mum/Sphinx in Greek (touring). TV appearances include; The Bill ( Thames), Grange Hill (BBC) Wild West (BBC) and numerous commercials and drama documentaries. Katherine works on school and community projects both as a performer and as a facilitator. She currently provides theatrical projects for many of the major London museums. Educational work includes; devising/performing to/with all ages, leading workshops and linking material to the National Curriculum. Corporate business experience in Role-play for training.

A growing interest in physical theatre led Katherine to CIRCUS SPACE where after taster courses in tumbling, acro-balance and flying trapeze she focussed on static trapeze and corde lisse. Katherine is now excited and inspired by the chance to develop quality entertainment by combining theatre and circus.

MARIAMA

Mariama began performing in her native county of Derby. Regular training in Ballet, Modern, Tap, and Speech and Drama at the Armstrong's School of Speech and Drama gave her the performance bug and skills that would later prove useful. After completing her schooling, she went on to pursue another of her interests - fashion. A BTEC course at the London College of Fashion led to a BA Honours Degree from Central St. Martins. Design skills and a love of style are both qualities that add to Mariama's contribution to Static Moves. Since graduating, she has worked in a variety of offices and fashion houses utilising her creative talents- not to mention a modelling campaign for Virgin mobile and other photographic shoots. Nothing compared though to the thrill of performing and when she began trapeze classes at The Circus Space and met Kate the opportunity presented itself to develop. Since Static Moves was formed, she has performed as a soloist and as part of the trio. From in-house shows at the Circus Space to the Hoxton Pimps New Years eve party, cabarets and festivals the trapeze bug has finally taken over!

SARA

Over the last 16 years Sara has been developing circus skills in many areas including a specialty in trapeze and corde lisse. As a founder member of Circus Space she found herself developing further skills leading her to become a member of the Hackney Hokey Cokies (a unicycle hockey team), not to mention the addition of juggling to her cv whilst training to be a nursery nurse! (Perhaps no surprise to the many parents and teachers out there!?) Since qualifying as a primary school teacher in 2002 Sara has literally juggled her life as a performer and teacher. Courses in mime and physical theatre at the Desmond Jones school of Mime combined with The Art of Clown at the Circus Space have stood her in good stead as she now works with Static Moves. Sara's skills as a teacher are also paying off as she leads the way in the circus workshops on offer and heads up the educational department. Currently she runs circus workshops for play schemes including some under the Sure Start scheme and is able to incorporate plate spinning, juggling, pedalgoes, unicycle, ultimate wheel, diablo, devil sticks, poi as well as trapeze and rope.
